Quitting the cigarettes might seem to be a really great thing, but it not always that clear, what the benefits are.

For a lot of people some of the benefits are obvious. The house and the clothes will smell better, and if you have smoked in your car, it will also be nicer to drive in. But it is probably not the main reasons why to stop smoking. Issues like money and health has much more to say than a minor issue like the smell of the cigarettes.

Non-smokers save a lot of money. If you cut down one pack of cigarettes a day, you can save $35 a week. And it adds up; $150 a month and $1,825 a year. For that amount you can get a nice vacation every year; or just get a better economy in general.

But even though it might be nice to save all the money, more important is the improved health you get by quitting the cigarettes. As little as 20 minutes after you have smoked the last cigarettes your health will have improved.

Quitting smoking can help you reduce the risk of high blood pressure, lung cancer, heart problems, stroke and breathing complications; a lot of reasons why it is vice to stop smoking. Research has shown that just a short period without cigarettes can reverse many of those harmful effects that smoking has caused; even if you have been a long time smoker.

An example is that just 5 years after the last cigarette the risk of a stroke will be the same as for someone who has been a non-smoker for their entire life. In contrast the risk if you continue to smoke is at least the double.

And it gets better. 15 years after you have stopped smoking the risk of coronary heart disease is the same as for non-smokers. It might seem like small steps, but you can be sure that they will improve your health; and thereby also the quality of your life.

Quit smoking gives you a lot of benefits; both when it comes to money and health. And if you stop today, both your health and your economy will be better tomorrow.

If you smoke your last cigarette now, your health will already have improved tomorrow. In fact the healing process will start after a few minutes. 20 minutes is all it takes, before the healing process starts.

If you smoke your last cigarette now, your blood pressure decreases and your pulse rate drops within the next 20 minutes. You will also feel that your body temperature of your hands and feet will be increased. 8 hours from now the carbon monoxide level in the blood has dropped to a normal level and the oxygen level in the blood will be at a normal level.

Tomorrow at the same time, your risk of a heart attack is decreased. And the day after tomorrow your nerve endings will begin to growth again. Your will also have improved your ability to taste and smell. On day later your breathing will be easier.

Your circulation will improve in the following weeks and months. Your walking will also be easier, and the lung function will improve. You will probably also feel that the nicotine withdrawal symptom isnt that bad. Now you can focus on the psychological need of smoking.

One year from now, the risk of coronary heart has decreased to half. And because smoking can directly be linked to 30 % of all heart disease deaths in the United States each year, this is very significant.

Some of the most important improvements are the long-term benefits. 5 years from now the risk of a stroke has been reduced to the same level as non-smokers. And 5 years later the risk of lung cancer has dropped to one-half that of the smokers. Other types of cancer like throat, mouth, esophagus, kidney, bladder, and pancreas will also have a lower risk.

The risk of coronary heart disease will be the same of people who have never smoked after 15 years. And in many other ways will the risk of death be at nearly the same level of people who have never smoked.

So do yourself (and your body) a favor and quit smoking today; and see your health improve. Just remember that the nicotine addiction healing process is an ongoing process. You will see some quick improvement, but other will happen more slowly.
