It can take a long time to quit smoking. Some people can do it in a few weeks or months, while other needs several years. But no matter what your timeframe is, you need to figure out how to keep your urge to smoke as low as possible.

At some point in your experience trying to quit you will encounter a situation where the urge to smoke is very strong. How you handle this situation will go a long way towards your ultimate success. Being prepared for the urge to smoke will ensure that you have a plan to keep your willpower strong and continue on your path to quit smoking successfully.

Think about when you normally have a cigarette. Is it after dinner or when you have exercised in the local gym? If you have knowledge about that, it will be easier to fight the urge.

Create a plan of attack. This could be something as simple as a stress ball for your hands, or even just a piece of hard candy to keep your mouth busy. If you really enjoy the taste and feeling of a clean mouth you could try brushing your teeth each time you want to smoke, or suck on a mint flavored candy, which will freshen your breath.

Avoid all temptations. If you are going out for a meal, make sure to get placed in the no smoking area. Stay away from tobacco stores and do also try to limit your time around other smokers. If you are not continuously around cigarettes, it will be easier to resist the temptation.

Clean your house of all smoking instruments. This means all ashtrays, lighters and matches; and get rid of the smell of cigarettes. Products like Febreeze are great for helping to get rid of cigarette smell, which can also trigger an urge to smoke.

Rearrange your home if you have a place where you normally smoke. It is much easier to resist the temptation if you break your routines. This is especially great if you normally have a habit of smoking at the exact same location like in your favorite chair in front of the television. So try to remove the chair to another part of the room to remove the urge to smoke when you are watching television in the chair.

Write down your goals to stop smoking. What might seem like a minor detail actually have a huge impact on the success factor. If you just tell yourself that it might be a good idea to quit the cigarettes, it is easier for you to cheat and give up to the urge. With goals on paper, you will be more likely to follow them. The same applies for losing weight, doing more exercise etc. Written goals can increase responsibility significantly.

Do never discount yourself. If you think you can succeed, you will actually be much closer to the success. It is important that you trust you can succeed, because it will help you fight the serious battles against the urge to smoke. It you decide to slip up again and again, you will find it much more difficult to get back on your feet. On the other hand if you hold on to your dedication to stop smoking you will see that each time the urge presents itself, it will be easier to handle.

Is self hypnosis really effective? Do you have goals you want achieve? Are you interested in self improvement? Can I really break those bad habits? To the answers to these and other self hynosis questions read further.

Self hypnosis is usually thought of as a person listening to an audio tape, mp3, or other mass-produced media, intended to induce a willingness to absorb suggestions centered around a specific topic such as weight loss, stop smoking, etc. Unfortunately, this kind of hypnosis is generally prepared by someone who has never met the person being hypnotized.

For example, if you burn easily sunbathing, that last thing you want to hear about is a long walk on a sunny beach. In this case, the “self” in self hypnosis simply means that you listen to it all by yourself. How do you incorporate self improvement to this kind of self hypnosis? To be able to go about self improvement, there are certain aspects in you that should be addressed. Using self hypnosis, the negative aspects that are serving as hindrances to improvement must be removed.

A effective self hypnosis should be designed and created by the very person who will ultimately use and benefit from it. Unlike the mass-produced hypnosis, this hypnosis is made for the exact purpose the person wishes, including the precise words and phrases that mean the most to that person.

The true self hypnosis is thus crafted by the person to suit his or her own needs. The benefits derived could only be accomplished with such a personal, one-of-a-kind hypnosis. In this case, the “self” in self hypnosis really does mean that you are hypnotized by yourself!

Below is a brief view of the self hypnotic process. Though lots of variations of this method have been used, these are the basic steps you have to go through in order to hypnotize yourself to accomplish your self improvement goals.

1. Position your goals from the most important goal to the less important in that order. If all possible, your goals should be measurable.

2. For every particular goal, you should implement fitting suggestions which means you have to convert your goals into specific instructions to your subconscious mind on how to achieve each goal you set.

3. Use the first minutes of your self hypnosis session to get as relaxed as you possibly can. Try to forget about all your worries and problems.

4. Start your hypnotic initiation phase by saying and repeating out loud the hypnotic words you have chosen, thinking of these words or listening to a hypnotic tape or CD customized for your hypnotic needs.

Before you start up your self hypnotic exercises you should make a time schedule for it. Do your hypnotic sessions every day, five minutes a day is enough. Repeat your suggestions as often as possible during the day. Measure your progress towards reaching your goals. Are you closer to your goal now than you were before you started? Ask yourself.

If you answer negative to these questions, you have to rethink and reorganize your train of thoughts. This is the only way you can find out if this method is really helping you in achieving your self improvement goals. If you want more help. There are good sites out there. I suggestamazing hypnosis resources. Self improvement is now within your reach.
