The Food and Drug Administration has yet to complete a full evaluation for safety and effectiveness of ecigarettes. Thus far the FDA has found that there is a distinct concern that these products have been found to contain nicotine. These devices can look the same as cigarettes but they do not have some of the same health risks. Since many see them as a deception device, many smokers are hesitant to use them because of the unknown health risks.

Electronic Cigarette PWN’s FDA

In a decision that astonished many of us, the Food & Drug Administration on Monday announced they'd stop trying to regulate the e-cig as drug delivery products. They will instead be regarded as tobacco products and come under the rules of the "Family Smoking Prevention & Tobacco Control Act". Introduced last year, this act gave the FDA power to regulate numerous areas of the tobacco trade such as the way they advertise and sell their products.

The e-cig controversy went viral around July of 2009 once the Food and Drug Administration released an investigation on smokefree cigarettes and their corresponding nicotine containing solution e juice identifying them as hazardous because they contained chemical substances regarded as poisonous to humans. The e cig enthusiasts fired back by appointing a prominent analysis firm to examine the FDA report and the techniques applied to obtain their conclusions. This firm found the conclusions obtained by the FDA study seemed to be invalid because the diagnostic techniques they employed had been far from those needed to produce these kinds of conclusive determinations.

FDA Turns Up Heat For E Smoke

The FDA has decided to appeal the verdict of the U.S. District Court who decided they have no authority over the sales of the e-cig. The District Court ruled that considering that the newest stop smoking device isn't considered a medical therapy, the Food & Drug Administration lacks the capacity to regulate and control them. The Food and Drug Administration takes issue concerning the Court's ruling despite the fact they concede the e-cigarette can actually be good for smokers wanting to give up smoking cigarettes in the same way methadone helps opiate addicts with their dependence.
